image "Urbanized Typeface" is the project which is designing a font using GPS data by running certain area of urban space.
First, running around street by bicycle with GPS receiver. The running course is the shape of each font’s characters. The GPS receiver recorded global positions once per a second as numerical data, and by through this process I made all of characters (A to Z). The alphabets have no existence but quite huge. And what was left there is only enormous deal of data of the physical act.

"Urbanized Typface: Barcelona2010" is the third version for this project. The base design of this font is the free font named "F.C. BARCELONA" which is used for jersey of FC Barça. I made this typeface during my residency programme in Barcelona, Spain with big support from Tokyo Wonder Site, HANGAR and local bicycle shop "C.R.E.A.M. Bike & Things".
